Hello from Slow Construct, we hope you’re doing well.
Two weeks ago, we wrapped up our Safe & Sound exhibition on the same day that we held a summer cocktail party with AI-architecture startup, illoca.
In Slow Construct-style, we invited guests to sketch an object, pinup, and vote for their favorite to be turned into editable architecture using Tracing Paper. Architects are a tough crowd, so can you guess which drawing won? Watch ‘til the end of this reel to find out; you’ll also get a glimpse of the latest AI tool illoca is building (hint: imagine transforming your imagination into editable 3D in no time). 👀
Our next event is a little less formal, a little more chill. Put down your gadgets, pack a snack, and join us for a Picnic in the Park. What happens when architects, builders, and built environment friends come together? Read on for the juicy details. ツ
Slow Construct Community
Invite: Picnic in the Park for Architects, Builders, and Friends
Join us on Saturday, August 1st for a slow afternoon in Central Park. We’re merging our community of multidisciplinary architects with Ideal Rev’s community of builders, developers, and real estate professionals for a casual summer picnic. And because we love activities, we’ll ask you to bring a little something to show and tell.
Whether you’ve been to every Slow Construct gathering or this is your first, consider it an open invite to meet someone from similar worlds. A future collaborator, client, employer—or a new friend. The best relationships are built over time, and we’re excited to wrap up the summer with one more afternoon together.
Recap: Architect-Makers Cocktail Party & What’s Next from Illoca
The party may be over, but the chats around AI in architecture is just getting started. We’re glad to continue our partnership with illoca as it aligns with our own values: support the designers shaping our built world. If you missed out or are curious to explore Tracing Paper, the team is hosting a webinar next Wednesday, July 15th on how to use AI for fast architectural prototyping.
Coded Forms Workshop: Grasshopper for Ceramic 3D Printing
SC Member Alejandra Rojas is hosting a two-part, in-person workshop to clay 3D printing using computational design thinking, from parametric model to finished ceramic vessel. In a small-group studio setting in Gowanus, Brooklyn, you’ll learn how to operate the printer, handle the clay, and leave with a vessel you printed yourself.
Next stop: Japan
🇯🇵 Slow Construct is heading to Japan this August and early-September, and we’re looking to connect with architects, designers, founders, and friends of the built environment for a casual gathering. If you have ideas, venues, or would like to explore ways to collaborate, reply to this email and let’s chat!
